My client, a leading Canadian Insurance company now has an immediate requirement for a Field Claims Representative for their Sudbury location.
The Role:
- Responsible for the investigation and settlement of relatively complex property claims. Provides quality service and ensures prompt and equitable settlement of claims in line with corporate policies and standards.
Major Duties:
- Investigates complex property claims through in-person contact with insureds, claimants, and witnesses. Ensures prompt and equitable settlements in line with corporate policies and standards. Evaluates each claim assigned and establishes claim reserves. Develops an action plan for conducting investigations by determining necessary contacts, interviews, appraisals, and/or information required to clarify and justify the claim.
- Documents the claims file by meeting with all involved parties and obtaining appropriate reports and statements from appraisers, third party adjusters, claimants, insureds, witnesses, police, and any other pertinent experts to determine liability and coverage. Analyzes the information gathered, interprets insurance policy wordings, determines coverage, and assesses damage and/or liability. Determines when sufficient information has been gathered to close the investigation.
- Within established authority limits, negotiates with insureds, claimants, lawyers, and insurers to settle claims. When necessary, handles alternate dispute resolutions. Composes claims reports to outline findings and settlements. If necessary, formulates recommendations for further actions required, attends court proceedings or hearings to provide information on claims. Acts in a consultative capacity on property or casualty claim matters.
- Provides quality service to external or internal customers. Answers queries and assesses needs relating to investigations and the claims process. Maintains effective communication channels with claims departments and liaises with adjusters, experts, management, and other claims representatives on technical and administrative issues. Develops and maintains productive business relationships with service providers. Monitors performance to ensure compliance with professional and corporate standards.
- Maintains current knowledge of insurance products as well as appraisal or investigation techniques and services. Identifies process improvement needs and recommends changes to policies or procedures to maintain quality service and competitiveness. Determines and/or establishes key measures to monitor personal efforts and service levels.
Education
- University degree/college diploma preferred or equivalent business experience.
Experience
- Ongoing commitment to self-development i.e. CIP participation.
- 5 to 8 years claims handling experience preferred.
Specific Experience
- Computer literate.
- Strong customer service skills. Strong written communication skills.
- Technical expertise, in the investigation, quantification and settlement of property, casualty, liability and bodily injury claims.
- Expertise in personal lines and commercial lines products. Expertise in the principles of contracts and contract law.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
