Our client was formed to exploit an Iron Ore mine and concentrator in Schefferville, QC on the border of Newfoundland and Labrador. They are a joint venture ranked in the top 10 steel producers. They employ over 80,000 people in five continents and boasts a revenue in excess of $20 billion for the 2010 fiscal year. The current project consists of upgrading high grade hematite ore with a feasibility study on a much larger project underway. The current project is a fly-in, fly-out operation.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or a certificate in applied science or science related technology to work in environment. Certificate in mining, geology or environment is a minimum; bachelor will be considered an asset.
- Good organizational, analytic thinking, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be well-versed in using computers, particularly in computer modeling.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Collecting samples of soils, water ( surface and groundwater) , industrial wastewater, and dust.
- Recording test data and preparing reports, summaries, and charts that interpret test results.
- Participate with the environmental specialist to Developing and implementing programs for monitoring of environmental pollution.
- Perform audit and inspection of site (open pit, plant, railway, camp).
- Monitor and maintain environmental equipment like sceptic system, drinking water system, in good order.
- Perform site inspection to make sure of the compliance of site.
- Participate to the training and the education of all workers.
- Member of the emergency team and Cooperate with authority and subcontractor.
