Position: Drill & Blast Engineer

Note: The current project is a fly-in, fly-out operation.

Our client was formed to exploit an Iron Ore mine and concentrator in Schefferville, QC on the border of Newfoundland and Labrador.  They are a joint venture ranked in the top 10 steel producers.  They employ over 80,000 people in five continents and boasts a revenue in excess of $20 billion for the 2010 fiscal year.  The current project consists of upgrading high grade hematite ore with a feasibility study on a much larger project underway.  The current project is a fly-in, fly-out operation.

Qualifications:

• Minimum Mining Engineering degree or equivalent (MSc. preferred).
• 5-10 years’ experience in of open pits blasting experience.
• Proven project management skills.
• Able to be registered with the professional organizations (PEO, APGO).
• Strong technical knowledge of blasting and vibration monitoring.
• Ability to work in a team environment and work independently when required.
• Knowledge of blast related software (e.g. Blastware or equivalent), blast and vibration monitoring equipment (i.e. blasting seismographs).

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Manage the blasting activity for entire site.
• Manage the impact of blasting operations on adjacent facilities.
• Provide mentorship to staff working on field projects and to provide technical review for blast design and vibration monitoring projects.
• Provide and manage Security Blasting Plan for operation team.
