Our client was formed to exploit an Iron Ore mine and concentrator in Schefferville, QC on the border of Newfoundland and Labrador. They are a joint venture ranked in the top 10 steel producers. They employ over 80,000 people in five continents and boasts a revenue in excess of $20 billion for the 2010 fiscal year. The current project consists of upgrading high grade hematite ore with a feasibility study on a much larger project underway. The current project is a fly-in, fly-out operation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mine engineering or geology .
- 8 to 12 years of progressive experience in management of large scale open pit mining activity
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered with typical former jobs of Senior mine Engineer or Senior Geologist.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Oversee the direct day-to-day operation of the mining operation.
- Execute the mining plans, while meeting quality, cost and schedule requirements.
- Support and ensure full compliance to all regulatory approvals.
- Achieve/exceed production quality and quantity targets while maximizing economic resource recovery.
- Develop innovative opportunities to improve the efficiency of operations.
- Ensure the mining operation team is delivering the desired service to the general project execution.
- Expand the capability of the area of accountability, to achieve continuous improvement, while balancing the allocation of resources, meeting quantity and quality output requirements.
- Develops and recommends mining plans, ground support systems and development plans.
- Contributes to the implementation of new systems/processes and provides guidance, auditing, mentoring, and analysis support to the management team.
- Support development of the department's annual execution plan and develops area specific, goals and objectives.
