Position: Maintenance Manager- Forestry, Pulp & Paper

Locations: Temiscaming, QC

Our client is a leading integrated forest products company, with extensive operations in North America and France. With sales of approximately $2 billion and some 4,300 employees, it operates over 30 market pulp, paper and wood product manufacturing units, and produces silvi-chemicals from by-products of its pulping process and specialty chemicals.  It markets its products worldwide and has sales offices in Canada, the United States, China, Korea and Japan. The Company also manages forest lands in four Canadian provinces in accordance with sustainable development principles and has committed to obtaining Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for all forests under its care.

This position reports to the Mill Manager, Specialty Cellulose.

Qualifications & Education:

  • Technologist diploma or  Mechanical Engineering  Degree or Equivalent Experience
  • 5+ Years in Preventive Maintenance  with at least 2 years as a Maintenance Supervisor
  • Bilingualism  is an asset
  • Good leadership and communication skills
  • Computer Literate
  • Aptitude test requirements

Expected Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality, low cost and timely services to the Site  Services areas
  • Provide an effective Preventive Maintenance, Repair and Construction service for each of the Operating Business Units and Site Service Areas
  • Provide effective Electrical/instrumentation Service to the Specialty  Cellulose Mill
  • Provide effective Maintenance Services to the Chemical & Resin Groups
  • Manage all Human Resource Activities related to Maintenance Services for the entire site
  • Establish and enforce Maintenance Standards and Procedures for the entire site
  • Ensure all services are in compliance with Tembec Corporate Principles and Guidelines and all applicable legislation
  • Ensure an effective Maintenance System that meets QMS (ISO 9001-2) and EMS(14001) standard is in place
  • Ensure compliance with all Environmental Legislation and take corrective action when required
  • Implement EMP Impact Zero ® in his area of accountability
  • Ensure that Maintenance and Repair Budgets are prepared, met, and variances explained with appropriate actions  noted and taken as needed
  • Prepare and implement a Cost Reduction program and explain all variances
  • Prepare and administer the Capital Spending Plan in his/her area of accountability
  • Provide and promote a safe work environment  and ensure corrective action is taken as required
  • Assist in the development of a Health and Safety Plan and be accountable for its implementation  and maintenance
  • Ensure that all employees of the Maintenance Department demonstrate maximum effectiveness in their roles and are developed for possible future advancement. Included in the program should be annual objectives and performance appraisals where appropriate
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of an Employee Communication Program to promote employee awareness, motivation, and participation in company plans
  • Ensure that all activities related to the Annual Complex Maintenance shutdown are effectively planned, coordinated and all scheduled work is completed on time while meeting safety cost, and quality objectives.
  • Ensure that Maintenance Services supplied to the area of accountability are effectively planned,  coordinated, and  delivered in a timely manner meeting all specified objectives
  • Ensure that all Repair and Construction services provided to the site are effectively planned,  coordinated, and  delivered in a timely manner meeting all specified objectives
  • Ensure that effective core training is planned and provided for those maintenance  employees who demonstrate their ability to be promoted
  • In consultation with the Human Resources Department, ensure fair and equitable application of the collective bargaining agreement, and provide direction to subordinates to do the same
  • Develop, implement, and maintain trades procedures and quality control procedures for the site to ensure maximum equipment efficiency and reliability.
  • Ensure that all Maintenance Activities are properly planned, and coordinated with all affected departments
  • Maintain a communication forum for the site to exchange ideas, thereby improving problem resolution, and to ensure inclusion of all employees and ensure a smooth transfer of knowledge.
