Position: Power Systems Engineer

Locations: Sudbury, ON

This position is part of our client’s Shared Services Organization, which exists to improve the flow and quality of internal support services such as Information Technology, Procurement, Finance and Human Resources to all of their operating units throughout North America.

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for integrity of designs produced under his/her technical direction and legally approves and seals designs and drawings as per the Professional Engineers Act.
  • Provide technical direction for complex engineering designs within his/her area of expertise and assists and guides other personnel.
  • Conducts complex engineering studies, conducts field inspections, resolves problems encountered in the field during installations, operations or maintenance of a project and prepares relevant reports.
  • Participates in the review of construction, commissioning and start-up functions.
  • Applies mature engineering knowledge and exercises leadership, mentoring and training to other personnel.
  • Manages the work of personnel, when assigned, to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, budget, codes and standards.
  • Conducts reviews of engineering consultant's engineering designs, drawings and specifications on assigned projects.
  • Performs Reliability-Centered Maintenance activities to increase system reliability
  • Provides relief supervision.

Education & Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • An undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer designation in Ontario or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
  • Relevant experience in Power Systems Engineering-Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Power.
  • A minimum 3 to 5 years of related experience.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Computer proficiency with engineering CADD, PLC/DCS configuration and Microsoft Office products
  • Be familiar with the latest codes, acts, regulations and technology in the electrical field.
  • Strong communications skills with internal and external customers.
  • Valid Driver’s license required.
