Position: Mechanical Engineer

Our client currently owns and operates six mines in Canada, Chile and the US which are projected to produce approximately 250 million pounds of copper, 115 000 ounces of gold, platinum, palladium and 7 million pounds of nickel in 2011. Qualifications & Education:
- Mechanical or Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent plus 8-10 years of experience in mining or similar heavy industry and / or projects
- P. Eng. designation
- Knowledge of the full mine cycle with a solid understanding of the issues facing project implementation
- Experience in project controls, reporting and contract administration
- Sense of urgency from a business perspective
- Ability to coach, mentor and lead a technical team
Expected Roles and Responsibilities:
- Participate in engineering feasibility studies to define proper mining methods, system and infrastructure design, equipment selection, mine site facilities, and capital and operating costs
- Participate in implementing and/or coordinating construction projects related to new sites or the modification/improvement of existing facilities
- Contribute to the assessment of manpower, capital and equipment requirements to meet project objectives
- Recommend courses of action designed to maintain schedule and control project costs
- Coordinate and review detailed designs for equipment and infrastructure and provide technical input as required
- Other duties or special projects may be assigned from time to time
