Levert Executive is the largest recruitment agency in Northern Ontario with offices in North Bay, Sudbury and Timmins. Our client base is made up of small, medium and multinational organizations. We have been successfully serving clients and candidates for over 25 years.

Our client was formed to exploit an Iron Ore mine and concentrator in Schefferville, QC on the border of Newfoundland and Labrador.  They are a joint venture ranked in the top 10 steel producers.  They employ over 80,000 people in five continents and boasts a revenue in excess of $20 billion for the 2010 fiscal year.  The current project consists of upgrading high grade hematite ore with a feasibility study on a much larger project underway.  The current project is a fly-in, fly-out operation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science with Master’s Degree desirable
  • 10+ years experience in environmental planning, assessment, monitoring, reporting and policy formulation
  • Knowledge of mining industry, particularly Iron Ore, would be desirable
  • Fluent in environmental legislation at the Federal and Provincial levels
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
  • Bilingualism (French-English)

Expected Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement environmental strategies and action plans that support policies
  • Coordinate all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation and renewable energy
  • Responsible for the implementation of sustainable development framework
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental legislation
  • Audit, analyze and report environmental performance to internal and external clients and to regulatory bodies
  • Carry out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce environmental risks
  • Promote and raise awareness at all levels of the organization of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice on ethical and social responsibilities
  • Trains staff at all levels in environmental issues and responsibilities
  • Negotiate environmental service agreements
  • Participate in the process of obtaining environmental permits
  • Update and maintain plans and standard operating procedures
  • Provide technical-level support for environmental remediation and litigation projects, including remediation system design and determination of regulatory applicability
  • Assess the existing or potential environmental impact of land use projects on air, water and land
  • Assist in budget implementation, forecasts and administration
  • Develops site-specific health and safety protocols, such as spill contingency plans and methods of loading and transporting waste
  • Designs systems, processes and equipment for control, management and remediation of water, air and soil quality
  • Prepares hazardous waste manifests and land disposal restriction notifications
  • Serves on teams conducting multimedia inspections at complex facilities, providing assistance with planning, quality assurance, safety inspection protocols and sampling
