Our client is a Mining and Exploration Company engaged in the acquisition, exploration, development and operation of mining properties in Canada, and is currently focused primarily on nickel in Ontario.
The Project Engineer is responsible for providing the highest level of leadership to the technical team in developing, guiding, steering and finalizing the feasibility study and is responsible for ensuring that project construction start up dates are met as planned and the execution of all project related activities are conducted in a safe and productive manner up to and including project commissioning and completion.
The position is responsible for meeting project schedule milestone dates and budget objectives which directly and indirectly related to the project. The candidates include all processes experience in project enginreering a feasibility levels and execution levels will assure that all project management criteria are given the highest level of attention to detal and follow up.
Responsibilities:
- Recommends a vision and strategy for achieving and maintaining capital project objectives.
- Meets all process safety, quality, and environmental protection regulations in compliance with First Nickel policies and MOL and MOE regulations and standards.
- Ensures the safe functionality of the engineering / technical group.
- Presents project results and forecasts on a monthly, QUARTERLY BASIS.
- Develops recovery plans accordingly.
- Keeps project manager informed of potential problem areas and recommends reasonable and viable solutions.
- Oversees contractor and suppliers as related TO CAPITAL project activities
Accountabilities:
- Ensures forecasted project milestones are met
- Ensures ongoing optimization of resources and performances.
- Ensures project cost and schedule reconciliation is conducted on a monthly basis.
- Presents project update, forecast and synopsis of schedule, costs, progress, key deliverables for project to completion and costs to completion.
- Implement effective project contract management processes.
Organizational Scope:
- Ensure Balanced and effective manpower resource group required meeting project schedules and mandate.
- Assist in setting achievable objectives.
Qualifications:
- Must be a designated Professional Mining Engineer in Ontario.
- Minimum of five (5) years in a progressive engineering capacity in a mining project / operations environment is required.
- Proven track record in project management and demonstrated career development path in mining operations.
- Training in strategic business and cost reduction programs are assets.
- Proven mining background with key activities being shaft development, u/g mine development and production mining in a trackless environment utilizing block mining methods in both bulk and narrow vein applications.
- Experience in managing underground mining projects at depth is an asset.
- The incumbent must possess the ability to handle stress of continual deadlines and to work without close supervision.
Working Conditions:
A greater portion (50%) of the candidates’ time is set in an office environment. A smaller portion (40%) of the candidates’ time is in the field (surface or underground) AND MAY be subjected to warm / cold and wet environment. TEN (10%) of his time is spent on reviews with suppliers and contractors.
