Our client has two permanent positions available for Mechanical Technologists to join the team.
Job Description:
- Coordinates the estimating, quoting, and customer service activities for the company's mechanical engineering department ensuring ongoing demand for the mechanical division's product lines.
- Consults with customers to determine product requirements and recommends product features or modifications.
- Answers enquiries related to pricing, department capabilities, design limitations, technical information, references, alternate sources, etc.
- Analyzes the intended use of product and user preferences.
- Computes cost factors and prepares quotation estimates for all products within the mechanical division.
- Prepares design concepts, arranges for the selection of construction material, prepares arrangement drawings, and arranges for the selection of subcontractors.
- Prepares specifications and guidelines for engineering and presents information to the design team.
- Supplies replacement part information such as part numbers and pricing.
- Prepares used equipment repair estimates by visiting mine sites and determining work to be done and the associated costs.
- Troubleshoots, solves problems, and initiates corrective action related to customer complaints.
- Coordinates the handling of warranty claims by mobilizing work crews advising shipping/receiving, and communicating the corrective action to be taken.
- Establishes subcontractor data base and negotiates the purchase of outsourced items and services.
- Maintains cost records including: cost sheets, historical material costs, labour costs, quotations issued, etc.
- Produce periodic reports on quotation activity.
- Communicates with sales staff and performs follow‑up calls related to quotes.
- Provide customer training and/or literature related to product installation and usage specific to the customer's application.
- Supervises or conducts on‑site testing of products such as free fall tests and the commissioning of loading stations.
- Researches and proposes new product development such as paint systems, prefabricated sections, bearing arrangements, latching devices, etc.
- Visits customers to provide after sale service and generate new sales.
- Provides in-house training in areas such as blueprint reading and product lines.

Education and/or Work Experience:
- Three year college diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Five-plus years experience in Mechanical Designing and Estimating, specifically related to the mining industry
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and legal documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Abilities:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations and Training:
- Certified Engineering Technologist.
- Ability to use AutoCad 12, 3D Inventor, Word, Excel, etc.
- Strong mining background.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and outside weather conditions. The incumbent must visit and work in underground mining operations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, it can be quite loud when conducting plant visits.
