Our client is a mining and exploration company engaged in the acquisition, exploration, development and operation of mining properties in Canada, and is currently focused primarily on nickel in Ontario.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interprets shape, size and metal content of mineralized zones from geological mapping and diamond drill results
  • Inputs and transfers findings and data to plans, sections, 3D computerized models for stope planning layout and scheduling
  • Calculates official and production reserves as required
  • Calculates grades for production forecasts and budgets
  • Coordinates diamond drill programs
  • Lays out diamond drill holes
  • Monitors and ensures correct diamond drill log information entries to data base
  • Monitors and calls grade in development and production headings
  • Monitors and tracks grade throughout the ore handling system
  • Verifies that correct plots of potential intersection of diamond drill holes are on mining layouts
  • Directs and monitors production results in terms of grade and dilution and recommends actions to enhance ore extraction and minimize dilution
  • Monitors and directs technical work performed by junior personnel
  • Works under the supervision of a professional geologist as certified by the APGO
  • In the absence of the Senior Mine Geologist he prioritizes and assigns work in the department
  • Able to effectively complete all Geologist I and Geo Tech I tasks, functions and responsibilities.

Essential functions:

  • Work in compliance with FNI standards and safety rules, the OHSA & regs, and the Internal Responsibility System.
  • Physically able to conduct assigned work and walk up and down ramps, ladders and stairways, work in active headings, conduct lifting and pulling. Able to conduct general check scaling.
  • Assist in the establishment of priorities on a daily basis.
  • Provide technical support in the areas mapping of development and production headings, grade control, grade calls, marking up DDH, inspection of drill core underground and on surface.
  • Conduct ground control observations and provide appropriate reports.
  • Able to effectively complete all Geology I, II and Geo Tech I tasks, functions and responsibilities.
  • Operate personnel vehicles on surface and underground.
